Worksite Wellness

Mission

“By promoting and educating a healthier lifestyle in our employees we will see
an increase in productivity, team-building, a balance between work and family,
and a decrease in absenteeism and sickness.”

Vision

“To promote and initiate a healthier lifestyle within Office of Rehabilitation Services
as we promote and initiate healthier lifestyles in our clientele.”

First in the Nation. The Worksite Wellness Council of Rhode Island, an affiliate of WELCOA, has met its vision to bring recognition to Rhode Island as the first Well State in the nation. This was achieved when 20% of the workforce was employed in organizations that have earned the award designation as a "Well Workplace". ORS is on its way to helping the state achieve this goal. ORS was recently designated a "Gold Well Workplace" by the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA).

Did you know that most organizations offer some sort of health-related activities for their employees? However, only WELCOA, and its affiliated Councils, understand that results-oriented workplace health promotion (wellness) programs, not random activities, have the potential to change lives and impact your organizations bottom line.

Through organized programs, wellness initiatives assist employees and their family members to make voluntary behavior changes that reduce their health risks and enhance their individual well-being.

During the past year, the ORS Health & Wellness Committee has provided presentations on Obesity Management, Diabetes Awareness, Allgergies and Asthma, the RI Community Food Bank, and the American Red Cross. ORS staff have participated in the Great American Smokeout and Walk-a-thons to benefit "Goodwill Industries and Individuals with Disabilities" and "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer", as well as having "Gone Red for Women" in support of the American Heart Association". For fun, ORS staff have skated during their lunch at the Fleet Ice Skating Center; roamed the Caratunk Wildlife Refuge during their Halloween Hike; played softball and volleyball at the ORS Family Outing; and have enjoyed eating healthy snacks and goodies at different social events.
